Every week I am sharing the spotlight on yogis who I've met over the years. I hope their stories will inspire and motivate you in your yoga practice. This Month the spotlight goes on ……. Belle Ife (Courtney).
She is an amazing yogi who I've connected with on Instagram. We started our yoga journey around the same time 4 years ago. She is also hosting her first event Sip and Become on February 9th 2019. Scroll to the bottom for more details!
SFCY: Tell us a little bit about yourself
Belle_ife: :)I am from Syracuse, NY which is probably the coldest place on earth but my home 📷 I currently reside in Atlanta, GA where I graduated from the illustrious Clark Atlanta University! Since 2014 I’ve been getting my yoga journey on and I never thought I could love something so much!
SFCY: How did you get introduced to yoga and when did yoga get serious?
Belle_ife: I got introduced into yoga by way of the 100 days of the Happiness journey I embarked on in 2014. I sought out yogis on IG that looked like me. I got pretty serious about yoga in 2015-16. Then I fell off for a minute and now I back like I never left!
SFCY: Can you share your biggest challenges within practicing yoga?
Belle_ife: Core power... Inversiones. I’m not yet secure in those areas.
SFCY: Where do you find your motivation to keep practicing?
Belle_ife: In myself. I absolutely love the way yoga makes me feel and how I’ve literally made it my own. Sensual Yoga flows for the win!
SFCY: What was your most embarrassing moment during your yoga journey?
Belle_ife: Hahaha! Falling on my neck in 2014. Popping my knees out of place I 2015. Ugh and just recently, attempting a wheel pose and taking 30 seconds to fall back into it.
There are so many bloopers all of the time lol.
SFCY: How did yoga influence your life beyond the mat?
Belle_ife: Good question! I got into self-care and meditation. I began changing my life by becoming less angry, more confident. I began caring for my internal being just as much as the outside. I carry a happy glow that I cannot hide. Yoga really has made life so much better for me. I cry less and flow more.
SFCY: What does your typical day look like?
Belle_ife: I roll out of bed and hit the yoga mat before work. At work, I do a few stretches at my desk. When I get home I flow again. Somewhere in between I eat and sleep lol.
SFCY: What is your favorite style to practice?
Belle_ife: Restorative and Yin yoga. When I’m feeling frisky I go Ashtanga. But I guess I’m kind of a lazy yoga lol. I rather lay on my mat in the same pose for 10 minutes. Hip openers are my fave!
SFCY: Who is your inspiration?
Belle_ife: @Bahayogi, @YogawithAdrienne, @littleyogijay, @trinity.yoga and YOU (@simplyfitandcurvyyoga) and every other beautiful goddess I get to follow on IG. We are all in different spaces and places on our journey and I truly find inspiration in all. I would not be where I am without the community.
SFCY: What are your future plans/goals/dreams for your yoga practice?
Belle_ife: I want to get certified in 2019! I’ve been putting it off for so long. It’s due time! I am also hosting my first yoga class at the Sip and Become event on February 9th, 2019. Ladies grab your tickets at www.nyeeshawilliams.com!
